The Sky Soldiers from the Army Aviation Heritage Foundation offers event visitors the opportunity to fly back in history with the men and machines that were there. Visitors will be able to take a thrilling ride over Pierre in an authentic Vietnam-combat service military Huey helicopter flown by combat veterans. Registered veterans are eligible for a free ride and will receive a wrist band for a Huey ride when they pick up their event packet at the Welcome Center. For all others, rides will be a $45 donation per person paid at the Huey ride site. Rides will depart from LZ South Dakota between 9 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday. LZ South Dakota is at the north end of Governor’s Grove in Hilger’s Gulch just north of the Capital complex.
